The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) was created in 2003 with the aim to accelerate the development of new or improved drugs, vaccines and microbicides against HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, with a focus on phase II and III clinical trials in sub-Saharan Africa.
Included within the EDCTP project profile is the PanACEA-REMoxTB project, which focuses on a shortened/simplified treatment for TB. The project consortium includes two TBD-UK members Professor Stephen Gillespie (University of St Andrews) and Dr Tim McHugh (UCL).
Most recently, EDCTP approved the capacity development project component of the PanACEA-REMoxTB consortium. This provides support for the development of African clinical trials capacity for tuberculosis studies.
