On World TB Day (24th March 2011), several members of the TBD-UK community took part in events across Europe. These included:
- A series of talks, presentations and general discussions organised by the ISMB Mycobacteria Research Laboratory at Birkbeck University of London. This also included a keynote speech (Tacking Drug Resistance, Therapeutic interventions and Target TB) by Dr Sanjib Bhakta and Professor Edith Sim.
- A review of specific projects being undertaken across the University of London. This includes Professor Mark Thomas (UCL Genetics, Evolution & Environment), Dr Andrew Hayward (UCL Infection & Population Health) and Dr Jolene Skordis (UCL Centre for International Health & Development) showcasing specific aspects of their work.
- The Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium hosted a World TB Day Conference on the 22nd March 2011. TBD-UK's ChairProfessor Stephen Gillespieparticipated in this event giving a presentation focusing on 'Exploring the fitness landscape on the path to multiple drug resistance tuberculosis'.
- The University of St Andrews held a seminar 'Lessons learned in the early stage discovery and development of a new TB drug'. The seminar was hosted by TBD-UK's Chair Professor Stephen Gillespie with a presentation made by TBD-UK's Deputy Chair Dr Geoff Coxon.
