TBD-UK Conference Update - November 2010

On Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd November 2010, TBD-UK hosted its second conference in the National Piping Centre, Glasgow. The focus of the conference was to enable delegates to "make new partnerships and create grant applications".

The conference was attended by 40 researchers from across the UK and opened by TBD-UK's Chair Professor Stephen Gillespie and Deputy Chair Dr Geoff Coxon who provided a brief history of TBD-UK, an overview of what has been achieved to date and future direction.

The remainder of day one focused on delegates having the opportunity to make a short presentation detailing their research ideas, expertise/facilities and any specific research requirements. With 25 delegates taking the opportunity to present, this provided a unique opportunity for UK researchers within the TB field to share their knowledge and experience.

In day 2, delegates requested the opportunity for a mini "networking" session enabling discussion with relevant contacts regarding their presentations and/or current and future projects. In order to facilitate the discussion, 4 mini sessions were held covering compounds, models, targets and enabling technology. There were also discussions regarding the potential avenues to secure funding with delegates sharing information and past experiences.

We anticipate that a number of new partnerships will be formed as a result of the conference and we look forward to bringing you updates in future months.

The next TBD-UK conference is due to be held in September 2011 and details will follow soon. Keep checking the website for further details.
